Monday Market Briefing - 21st June 2021

New crop prices looked to go lower last week on wider economic worries about post-Covid economies, before rallying into the weekend for a net £2.00 loss. We’ve spoken before about the underlying support at current levels and we certainly saw fresh Consumer buying interest as the week progressed. Farmers also were a bit more engaged, there’s still a fair bit of old crop tidying up going on at very good price levels. Widespread rain across Europe has hopefully not done too much damage and the forecast does now look much more settled. The French harvest has been slightly weather delayed and we might see some quality concerns emerging from there soon although early barleys cut were reportedly very good quality and wheat condition ratings are still high. Quiet and sideways looks like the call for this week as we wait for more harvest news.

2022 crop winter oat terms are live on our website now as well as a new contract for firefly/elicit soft wheat export which offers added value over typical soft wheat terms. Find them HERE. Call your farm trader or the Grain Office if you would like to know more about these options (you might want to check seed availability as well for popular varieties – prices came out last week and when it’s gone it’s gone!).

We are very pleased the Bartholomews Trial event at Chalton is going ahead this week on Wed 23rd/Thurs 24th in a fully Covid compliant fashion. A lot of work has gone into ensuring the event can go ahead safely and we look forward  to seeing as many of you there as possible.

Have a good week and stay safe.
