Agriculture’s Link within a Sustainable Food Industry
For over 140 years, Bartholomews has been part of the fabric of British agriculture. From our beginnings in 1883 as a small Chichester family business delivering hay and straw, we’ve grown into a modern, forward-thinking company that remains true to its farming roots.
We don’t just work in agriculture—we live it. By researching, growing, buying and selling grain, we understand the real challenges farmers face because we face them too. This hands-on experience drives our grain research programmes and the products we manufacture at our Chichester plant.
Our unique model brings grain trading, research and manufacturing together under one roof, giving us full control from sourcing to packaging and allowing us to respond quickly with practical, effective solutions. Our research network spans 16 trial sites across the South of England, exploring nitrogen efficiency, biologicals, crop protection and new seed technologies.
As the first UK business to introduce low-carbon cereal contracts, we’re leading the transition to net-zero farming—creating measurable impact from field to shelf while delivering value for both farmers and consumers.
With our own manufacturing and processing facilities, we ensure quality and consistency in everything we produce. We’re not just supplying inputs; we’re farmers and researchers developing innovations rooted in real-world data.
From horse-drawn deliveries to pioneering agricultural research, Bartholomews has always been committed to supporting British farming through innovation, expertise and a deep understanding of what it takes to grow sustainably. We’re proud to help shape the future of agriculture—today and for the next generation.
