Monday Market Briefing - 9th October 2023

There were some attention grabbing stories around last week, a cargo ship struck a mine near the mouth of the Danube, and also unconfirmed reports of China buying US wheat which would be unexpected if true. In the end the stubborn refusal of markets to respond by making any sort of move all week just underlined how entrenched current values now are.

Autumn execution programmes are getting started. We have our first malting barley vessel of the new campaign in this week and this should be followed pretty closely by a second with soft wheat also featuring in October.  Good opportunities to get some material moved then, if you can fit in the lorries around this very busy drilling window. With a good wheat crop getting in and establishing well, perhaps new crop at a premium to old is worth a look?

Have a good week.
