Monday Market Briefing - 6th July 2026

Markets are almost spookily quiet as we wait for harvest to get going properly,  ten days of perfect summer weather in the forecast now should be enough to get us going on everything in the south this week. At this point on the calendar we look to France for insights into the crops potential.

Typically two weeks ahead of us they are not always a perfect indicator but there will be clues and they are now 90% through winter barleys for example. That crop is 5-10% down on average yields but it seems autumn sown spring barleys have faired much better. This week they will move into winter wheats and we will finally know what impact the extensive heatwave in May has had. Eastern European yields are widely expected to be excellent and will likely offset any French losses.

Poor results from France, if we get them, might give us a price bump this week. If that happens, it will be a selling opportunity as all other recent rallies have proved to be.

Have a good week.
