Monday Market Briefing - 27th October 2025

Latest updates continue to add to the world crop this year, time to rip up the record books, we now know we have the biggest year-on-year increase in World production since 2016, standing at 100million tonnes ( 4%) across all grains. At least there can’t be any argument about why prices are where they are. Drilling the next crop has gone extremely well across all of Europe and the UK - at the moment we don’t think winter sowings at home will be much affected by the commercial environment, specifically the likely drop in spring barley acreages might come less from extra winter cropping and more from switches into alternative spring crops. Time will tell.

Nov25 LIFFE opens its tender period this week , the prelude to its going off the board soon after, so forward pricing will now be driven by the May26 contract which itself looks a little close to the Nov26 contract for my liking.  The relationship between those two will have quite a bearing on old crop prices in the second half of the season.

A few pre-Cristmans slots still remain, we need feed wheat for Nov and Dec and a small amount of feed barley. We can also bid into Shoreham for Laureate malting barley for Nov collection. Speak to us especially if you have any marginal nitrogen parcels that don’t suit the domestic homes. Jan-March oats openings are starting to fill up quickly, don’t neglect that one if you have some to do.

Have a good week
