Tuesday Market Briefing - 1st September 2026

Wheat broke through the July high last week and immediately pushed on into higher territory, there is no sign of a lessening of hostilities in either war zone at the moment. US markets were calmer on Monday but it’s difficult to see the market not continuing to find support against this backdrop. Prices are now 20% above pre -harvest lows and they will now be fully compensating growers for their reduced yields. All we need now is some properly functioning markets to sell into.

Our first soft wheat cargo of the season loaded successfully last week , proving it’s still possible to add value to UK wheats in the European market, but overall demand remains sluggish. Until now buyers have had the excuse of needing to work out how to use an unusually high protein crop, but as we move into September we should start to get a clearer picture of what millers, maltsters and compounders actually want. Should be a busy month ahead.

Have a good week.
